I'll probably need to use your code in my project which could lead to an article. Are you allowing people to use and modify your code outside of Github? If you do so, you probably want to add a LICENSE file to your project ( https://choosealicense.com/ ) in order to allow me or other scientists to use your code in their lab projects.
