The page loads quite slowly due to the sheer number of squares being calculated and drawn on the page. Ignoring the space behind the main content area (width: 60%) will help reduce calculations
60% content area means 20% width each side of the area to fill

Calculating the number of columns that would be needed to populate 20% of the screen's width could mean that we have a set number of columns to calculate for, and can do this for each side of the content area, leaving a large empty space underneath the content
