Chemotion LabIMotion 1.5.0 Preview
Dear Chemotion LabIMotion users!
LabIMotion Vocabulary (Lab-Vocab) and Standard Layer are now available in https://labimotion-stage.ibcs.kit.edu/home for you.
In addition, this preview includes enhancements to the User Interface Foundation to ensure a more consistent and enhanced user experience.
LabIMotion Vocabulary (Lab-Vocab)
With this preview, we’re unlocking the potential for scientists (designers) to use LabIMotion Vocabulary (Lab-Vocab) with predefined terminology while designing templates for their domain-specific applications. Scientists can also contribute to or expand Lab-Vocab based on their expertise, driving the improvement of FAIR chemistry research data management and integration.

Standard Layer
Starting with something is faster than starting with nothing, isn't it? Standard Layer is a new feature in LabIMotion. Designers create templates by grouping components into blocks called Layers. With this new feature, designers can save these Layers for reuse across multiple templates. This not only reduces the risk of human error, but also allows designers to build on existing layers, saving time, improving design efficiency, and increasing knowledge sharing within the community.
User Interface Foundation
As LabIMotion has become more powerful, it has also become more diverse and complex. Our goal is to provide a set of standards for a consistent, accessible and responsive experience across all LabIMotion interfaces, such as colour and typography. With this in mind, LabIMotion has adopted the following changes:
1. Buttons with Tooltips
Tooltips provide additional information without cluttering the interface. You can understand a button's function by simply hovering over it for a quick tip. Therefore, all LabIMotion buttons are equipped with tooltips to offer clear guidance.
2. Badge Style Indicators
Key information is displayed using badge styles. In both the layer and field headers, you can see the layer name and field name. Each header also includes additional details unique to the layer or field, displayed in its own distinct style. For example, the layer header shows the total number of fields in the layer and whether it is used in the workflow design. The field header displays the field type and relevant details, such as the selection list when the field type is "select."
3. Optimized Button Arrangement
To enhance efficiency, we’ve restructured the button arrangement. Buttons serving standard, global, or general purposes are now placed directly on the layer/field header for quick access. Less common or specialized actions are grouped under a "More functions" button, keeping the interface clean and intuitive while still providing access to all necessary features.
