• Presumably the students were taught ggplot() in the introduction to R class?
• Rather than giving them custom plotting functions (that occasionally generate weird errors, and commonly result in the new plot error, we might let them write their own code to generate their own plots

It might be worth touching base with the intro to R course on this one to see what they’re taught and how well they managed. In fact, day 1 could be a recap day covering basic concepts: how to go through code line by line, highlighting code and viewing objects, RStudio, basic tidy verse, plotting, etc.
