This will be emailed out, with a copy kept here.

Hi all,

You're receiving this since you're likely to have an interest in the SGC's Open Chemistry Networks (OCN) initiative. If you'd rather not receive occasional updates, please just email chemistry@thesgc.org - nobody wants spam. If you know someone who might be interested, please forward this email along. We'll set up a way to sign up for emails ASAP.

General Updates
Main web page now features "tiles" for projects. Logo is available for anyone to use, and to advertise their lab's involvement. Article published on the Sir James Murray Student Champion role, and guidelines on this role and that of the Pharma Champion have been posted. Instructions for free lab notebook have been posted. We are still trying to identify the best compound registration system that allows full open data deposition.

Status of Projects
1: PKIS-5. Lead-optimization, kinases. Need chemistry inputs from you all. Biology ready to go in Chapel Hill. Need student and pharma champions.
2: RBBP4. Hit-to-lead chemistry needed towards improved binder. Student Champion recruited (@SumeraMalik123, Toronto), pharma champion recruited (@Jamie3911, AstraZeneca). First meeting taking place soon. Biology ready in Toronto.
3: HIPK4. Placeholder, awaiting initial data.
4: SARS-CoV-2 Nsp13 helicase. Fragment-to-hit stage. Exploratory chemistry needed. Student Champion recruited (@TomkUCL, UCL), pharma champion recruited (James Day, Astex).
5: PLCzeta1. Hit finding, non-hormonal female contraception. Protein made by Levon in Toronto, now need screens to identify first hits. Postdoc being appointed at UCL. Need pharma champion and student champion.

Main Needs:

  • Chemistry!
  • More/better "advertising", e.g. through use of Twitter hashtags #SGC-OCN and/or #SGCchem and by tagging accounts thesgconline and/or target2035.
  • Several new targets will be coming related to SGC/Gates non-hormonal contraception grant and the EUbOPEN consortium - meaning we will need more student and pharma champions (though we have had three recent applications who are selecting projects).

Best,

Mat (@mattodd) and Santha (@Santha-SGC) and the whole OCN community

(This email is online here. If you'd like to get involved in OCN, sign up to Github and send us your username, or email chemistry@thesgc.org.)
