Bindgen module not found

Hello,
I was following the README to test and stumbled into python-to-wasm/.venv/bin/python3: No module named wasmtime.bindgen' after running python3 -m wasmtime.bindgen app.wasm --out-dir hello_host. I am using v40 for wasmtime. After downgrading versions, it worked. From version 39 and above, it is now working.

I tried looking at previous issues in both componentize-py and wastime, but I can't seem to find any meaningful changes. Any point towards documentation would be appreciated.

Hi @melizalde-ds. Thanks for reporting this.

Alex Crichton, the maintainer of wasmtime-py has recently redesigned its component support (see e.g. bytecodealliance/wasmtime-py#308 and bytecodealliance/wasmtime-py#310), resulting in a completely new API. I've not yet studied the new API, nor I have I updated the examples in this repo to use it. For the time being, I'd recommend sticking with an older, compatible version of wasmtime-py.

If you're feeling adventurous, you could experiment with using the new wasmtime-py API to run components and report what you learn here 😉

Thanks for the quick response! I will definitely check the new API and, in the meantime, work with the older version. We can add a note to the README and examples to clarify versioning. I can do that if that works for you, if that works for you. Thanks!
