Non-intuitive behavior when sorting and selecting

When I load a collection of spectra, sort them by a table column and then select a range of rows by clicking the start row + shift-clicking the end row, I would like to get the range selected from the table as displayed. Instead, I get the range between the chosen start and end rows in the original table. See screenshot, note the "id" column which was ordered in the original input.
