It appears that the orders section on the dashboard works well for new orders, but it does not seem to pick up all shipped orders - even after doing a refresh. I pushed an order through for customer ABC123 and order number 42304-00 and it does not show up.
On the customer record, it only shows up if I do an advance search using from through dates.
