Sending an array (data) into a python function from IDL and doing this:

output = np.copy(data)
output[:,:] = np.nan
output[0,0] = 10.0
output[0,1] = np.nan
return output

The result:
IDL> print,r1
10.0000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 ...
0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 ...
:

This is a bit puzzling, unexpected and IMO quite wrong! How does one return arrays with NaN properly from python in IDL?
