Synced MP3 Files are un-playable

Hey there,

when syncing to my iPod classic 6th Gen, all AIFF source files are playable.
However some of my source files are sadly just mp3 (256, 192) files. These are synced, show the correct duration - but can never be played.
Anything I can tweak in the configuration? I can hear the hard drive starting and then clicking.
