Possible to optionally split affiliations across multiple lines?

For paper openjournals/joss-reviews#7206 the author would prefer to have both of their institutions rendered out on seperate lines (Infineon/StreamGen#7 (comment)), so instead of the current format of

1 Institution of Affiliation A 2 Institution of Affiliation B

it would be

1 Institution of Affiliation A
2 Institution of Affiliation B

Is this currently possible as of v1.1.4? (inara seems to detect line break information and strip it out from affiliation name fields.) If not, is this an optional behavior that could be supported?

If its possible (and I hope you don't mind me asking), I think some form of delimination between the numbers and the entries would make for a slightly clearer style. I am thinking of either ),- or a . as in:

1. affiliation A
2. affiliation B
