Can I use this device to dump the ROM from the Japanese release of Super Mario RPG and substitute it for the U.S. version? If not, can someone point me in the right direction on how to do this?

Are you asking if it is possible to write the ROM file for the U.S version of Super Mario RPG onto a Japanese cartridge? If so, no it is not possible, as the ROM chips inside ALL retail game releases for the SNES are read-only, and cannot be written to without modifying the hardware inside the cartridge.

I was afraid of that. I don’t have the means to rewrite a new ROM for my SM RPG. Thanks for the reply

But if you are willing to modify your cart, you can do so by removing the original maskrom and replacing it with a 27C322 programmed with the USA rom and solder it back into place using this adapter. I have done this for a handful of SNES carts and it works great.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I’m afraid I don’t have the means to program the IC at home, as the adapter/programmer is too expensive to acquire. I’ll have to delay this project for now, but I’m glad for the help I got here.
