Decrypt files and notes from self hosted server

I just started using SN and am wondering how to decrypt files and notes from a self-hosted server. I can see the files in the file system and the notes in the database, but how can I decrypt them when I need them? I don't want to rely on a client backup when the server is usually the only real storage location.
