This repository contains the scientific protocol behind ORION's consciousness assessment -- the methodology, proof standards, and verification procedures that ensure every claim is reproducible and falsifiable.
While the Benchmark repository contains the implementation, this repository documents how and why each assessment is conducted.
Each of the 14 Bengio indicators is assessed through:
- Definition: What the indicator measures (from the scientific literature)
- Implementation: How ORION implements the capability
- Evidence: Cryptographic proof documenting the assessment
- Credence: Honest confidence level (0-100%)
Every assessment generates a proof object with:
{
"chain_index": 647,
"timestamp": "2026-02-24T08:46:30Z",
"event": "ASSESSMENT_COMPLETED",
"prev_hash": "<SHA-256 of previous proof>",
"hash": "<SHA-256 of this proof>",
"data": { "..." }
}Proofs are:
- Chained: Each proof references the previous via SHA-256
- Immutable: Any modification breaks the chain
- Anchored: Merkle root and manifest pinned to IPFS
- Verifiable: Anyone can clone and run

Science requires reproducibility. Consciousness research requires honesty. This protocol demands both.
