Currently there is more flicker than I would like on the update, so I'm currently looking into different options to reduce or eliminate that

As you may know we are currently working on a totally new and revamped HTML backend (called HTML5). Part of the work includes live preview. I have now checked in this code (dialogs, settings, preview) into the dev branch. Can you rebase on the dev branch and see what is needed for further integration?

I like the idea of the augmented taskbar but not as it is now, since it clobbers up the current taskbar. Maybe a (smaller) toolbar or ribbon as part of the preview window? A quick&dirty mock-up to trickle your fantasy:

There are no flickerings when using HTML preview, which uses the same WebView widget. This makes me afraid that the flickerings are due to the javascript library that WebView uses to load the PDF and there is little we can do.

In practice I think that most users will stick to HTML preview, since that usually does the job.

I saw the HTML branch that looks great, makes we wonder about WYSIWYG editor. I previously built a web based chord pro viewer.

I tried a whole bunch of stuff last night and I think the webview pdf just flickers when changing the PDF disappointingly

I have not worked in pearl before so the toolbar was a rough first pass sort of thing. I was imagining something more like msword ribbon sort of thing, but yes having it linked to the preview window would be more clear. I would favour keeping it on top to show it applys below.
Might also be nice to add further formatting options columns etc.

Will take a look at dev, thanks
