Paper Method Overview Skill

Codex skill for creating editable, high-quality first drafts of academic method overview figures in Canva.

The skill is designed for paper method diagrams, graphical abstracts, and workflow figures. It uses the local style corpus in assets/style-examples/, the executable rules in references/, and Canva/Computer Use workflows to produce editable Canva drafts instead of flattened bitmap-only figures.

Structure

  • SKILL.md: main skill instructions and trigger description.
  • agents/openai.yaml: agent configuration.
  • references/style-guide.md: target visual language and reusable figure rules.
  • references/canva-workflow.md: Canva drawing and import workflow.
  • references/figure-checklist.md: pre-delivery quality checklist.
  • assets/style-examples/: style reference figures.
  • drafts/: local draft outputs used during skill development.

Install

Copy or clone this folder into your Codex skills directory:

mkdir -p ~/.codex/skills
cp -R paper-method-overview ~/.codex/skills/

Then restart Codex or reload skills if your environment supports live skill refresh.

Use

Ask Codex to use paper-method-overview when you want a method overview figure draft from a manuscript method section, method summary, or visual brief.

The expected output is a Canva-editable first draft plus refinement notes, not a final camera-ready figure.
