Quick Start Guide 🚀

Get up and running with StepSyncAI in less than 5 minutes!


Option 1: Web Browser (Instant Access)

Step 1: Open StepSyncAI

Visit https://isaloum.github.io/StepSyncAI in any modern web browser:

  • ✅ Chrome/Edge (recommended)
  • ✅ Firefox
  • ✅ Safari
  • ✅ Opera
  • ✅ Brave

Step 2: Complete Onboarding

On first visit, you'll see a welcome screen:

  1. Enter your name (optional - for personalization)
  2. Click "Continue"
  3. You're ready to start tracking!

Step 3: Start Logging Data

Navigate using the tabs at the top (or bottom on mobile):

  • 📊 Dashboard - View your wellness overview
  • 🧠 Mental Health - Log mood and symptoms
  • 💊 Medication - Add and track medications
  • 😴 Sleep - Log sleep hours and quality
  • 🏃 Exercise - Track physical activity

Option 2: Install as PWA (Recommended)

Benefits of Installing

  • 🚀 Faster loading with offline caching
  • 📱 Native app feel on mobile and desktop
  • 🔔 Future push notifications (coming soon)
  • 💾 Better persistence of your data

Install on Desktop

Chrome/Edge (Windows/Mac/Linux)

  1. Visit https://isaloum.github.io/StepSyncAI
  2. Look for the install button (➕ icon) in the address bar
  3. Click "Install StepSyncAI"
  4. App will open in a standalone window
  5. Optionally pin to taskbar/dock

OR

  1. Click the three-dot menu (⋮)
  2. Select "Install StepSyncAI..."
  3. Click "Install"

Safari (Mac)

  1. Visit https://isaloum.github.io/StepSyncAI
  2. Click FileAdd to Dock
  3. App will appear in your Applications folder

Install on Mobile

iOS (iPhone/iPad)

  1. Open in Safari browser
  2. Tap the Share button (⬆️ icon at bottom)
  3. Scroll and tap "Add to Home Screen"
  4. Tap "Add"
  5. App icon will appear on your home screen

Android

  1. Open in Chrome browser
  2. Tap the three-dot menu (⋮)
  3. Tap "Add to Home screen"
  4. Or tap the popup banner that appears
  5. App icon will appear on your home screen

First-Time Setup

1. Set Your Theme

Click the theme toggle button (🌙/☀️) in the top-right to switch between dark and light modes.

Your preference is saved automatically.

2. Add Your First Medication (Optional)

If you take medications:

  1. Go to 💊 Medication tab
  2. Enter medication name (e.g., "Vitamin D")
  3. Enter dosage (e.g., "1000 IU")
  4. Select time of day
  5. Click "Add Medication"

StepSyncAI will:

  • ✅ Validate dosage for safety
  • ✅ Check for drug interactions
  • ✅ Allow you to track adherence daily

3. Log Your First Mood

  1. Go to 🧠 Mental Health tab
  2. Move the slider to rate your mood (1-10)
  3. Select any symptoms (anxiety, stress, fatigue, etc.)
  4. Optionally add notes
  5. Click "Save Mood Entry"

4. Log Sleep (Recommended)

  1. Go to 😴 Sleep tab
  2. Enter your bedtime (e.g., 10:00 PM)
  3. Enter wake time (e.g., 6:00 AM)
  4. Rate sleep quality (1-10)
  5. Click "Save Sleep Entry"

5. View Your Dashboard

Return to the 📊 Dashboard to see:

  • Your wellness score (updates as you log data)
  • Today's stats (mood, sleep, exercise, medications)
  • 7-day trends chart
  • Personalized insights
  • Activity streak

Daily Routine

Morning Routine (2 minutes)

  1. Open StepSyncAI
  2. Log yesterday's sleep (bedtime → wake time)
  3. Mark morning medications as taken
  4. Check dashboard for insights

Evening Routine (1 minute)

  1. Log today's mood
  2. Log any exercise
  3. Mark evening medications as taken
  4. Review wellness score

Pro Tips

📊 Track Consistently

  • Set a daily reminder on your phone
  • Log data at the same time each day for patterns
  • Don't skip days - even logging "no exercise" is valuable data

🎯 Set Realistic Goals

  • Start with just mood tracking for the first week
  • Add one new tracker per week
  • Don't pressure yourself to track everything perfectly

📈 Review Trends Weekly

  • Every Sunday, check your 7-day trends chart
  • Identify patterns (e.g., "I sleep worse on weekends")
  • Adjust habits based on insights

💾 Export Your Data

  • Export monthly as a backup (Dashboard → Export Data)
  • Share with healthcare providers during appointments
  • Keep historical records for long-term analysis

🔒 Privacy Practices

  • Your data is 100% local (never sent to servers)
  • Use the Sign Out button to clear all data
  • Be cautious if using a shared/public device

Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Tab - Navigate between form fields
  • Enter - Submit forms or activate buttons
  • Space - Toggle buttons
  • Arrow Keys - Adjust sliders

All features are fully keyboard accessible for users who can't use a mouse.


Mobile Features

Bottom Navigation Bar

On mobile devices (< 768px width), navigation moves to the bottom for easier thumb access.

Swipe Gestures (Coming Soon)

  • Swipe left/right to switch tabs
  • Pull down to refresh dashboard

Install Prompt

If you haven't installed the app, a "📲 Install App" button will appear in the bottom-right corner.


Troubleshooting

Data Not Saving?

  • Check browser localStorage is enabled
  • Disable private/incognito mode (data won't persist)
  • Clear browser cache and reload
  • Check storage quota (should be 5MB+)

App Not Loading?

  • Check internet connection (required for first load)
  • Try a different browser
  • Clear cache and reload
  • Disable browser extensions that might interfere

Charts Not Showing?

  • Log at least 2 days of data to see trends
  • Refresh the page if chart doesn't appear
  • Check browser console for JavaScript errors

Install Button Not Appearing?

  • Already installed? Check your apps/home screen
  • Using Safari on iOS? Use the Share → Add to Home Screen method instead
  • Using Firefox? PWA install support is limited; use Chrome/Edge

Lost Your Data?

If you accidentally signed out or cleared data:

  • Unfortunately, data cannot be recovered (it's stored locally only)
  • Export data regularly to prevent loss
  • Consider syncing exports to cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.)
