🧳 Reunite – FUD Lost & Found Management System

📖 Overview

Reunite is a full-stack MERN web application developed for the Federal University Dutse (FUD) community. It provides a secure, centralized, and intelligent platform for reporting, tracking, and recovering lost items.

It replaces informal systems (WhatsApp, word-of-mouth) with a structured digital solution, improving recovery rates and accountability.

🛠️ Installation & Setup

1. Clone the Repository

git clone https://github.com/your-username/reunite.git
cd reunite

2. Backend Setup

cd backend
npm install
npm run dev

3. Environment Setup

Create a .env file in the /backend directory:

MONGO_URI=your_mongodb_uri
JWT_SECRET=your_secret
CLOUDINARY_NAME=your_name
CLOUDINARY_KEY=your_key
CLOUDINARY_SECRET=your_secret

4. Frontend Setup

cd frontend
npm install
npm run dev

  • Authentication Validation: Verified secure login, Google OAuth 2.0 flow, and JWT session persistence.
  • Item Posting: Validated multipart-form data handling and image uploads via Cloudinary.
  • Search Functionality: Tested real-time filtering and keyword matching for item discovery.
  • Match Notifications: Confirmed instant toast alerts and automated matching logic.

📊 Impact

  • 📈 Improved Recovery Rate: Drastically reduces the time between losing an item and its recovery.
  • 🔒 Enhanced Security: Implemented a digital "Chain of Custody" via the Keepers Ledger for full accountability.
  • 🏫 Centralized Solution: Replaces fragmented social media groups with a single, official FUD portal.
  • 🤝 Student Collaboration: Fosters a community-driven environment based on trust and mutual assistance.
