Data Sources
Rough sketch of the layout for data source descriptions. This page will probably be broken into sub-pages once the content starts going in.
A large project like INTERACT gathers data from a variety of disparate sources. In this section we itemize those sources, describing the data gathered and the partners involved.
To unify the data from all partners and provide a degree of anonymity, each participant is assigned a unique 10-digit identifier. All incoming data from external data partners is annotated with this INTERACT_ID (sometimes shortened to IID).
- Example: A user whose first participation was in Saskatoon for Wave 2 might have an INTERACT_ID of 0302123456. (But be aware that leading zeros are often dropped, so this would be identical to an IID of 302123456.)
The type of data collected from users fall into three broad categories:
Participant Metadata is collected at participant registration time, either by one of our data partners or by a project coordinator. This information comprises basic contact and identification information like name, email address, physical address, etc. For more on this, see Participant Metadata.
Telemetry Data is collected by physical activity monitoring devices and consists of GPS location and accelerometry data, along with several other tangential data streams, depending on which data collection device is being used. For more on these, see Telemetry Data.
Survey Data is annotative data provided manually by participants in response to surveys and questionnaires presented at various times throughout the data collection period. For details on these, see Survey Data.
