in python 3 print is a function not a keyword
python3 uses utf8 s
bits is now of type `bytes`, it's not a string any more and thus it needs to be converted explicitly

Python 2 reached beginning of 2020 its end of life and will no longer be updated.
Many operating systems begin to ship python 3 as their default python version.
This PR ports the script ports the script to python 3.
Besides the obvious print parenthesis change
strings are utf-8 by default in python3 and needed to be dealt with.
