FerrisQuote

FerrisQuote logo

A high-performance, customizable quoting and estimation engine built in Rust.

Executive Summary

FerrisQuote is a robust backend solution designed to streamline the creation, management, and customization of professional quotes. Built with a focus on type safety, memory efficiency, and extensibility, it allows businesses to define complex pricing logic and bespoke document templates through a programmable interface.

Core Technical Features

  • Type-Safe Estimation: Leveraging Rust's powerful type system to prevent calculation overflows and ensure financial data integrity.
  • Modular Architecture: Easily plug in custom logic for taxes, discounts, or multi-currency support via a trait-based plugin system.
  • Template Engine: High-speed generation of quotes (PDF/HTML) using a customizable and lightweight templating layer.
  • Async-First: Built on top of tokio for non-blocking I/O, ensuring high throughput for large-scale enterprise environments.
  • CLI & API Ready: Designed to be consumed as a standalone library, a REST/gRPC service, or a CLI tool.

Tech Stack

  • Language: Rust (Stable)
  • Logic: Trait-driven customization
  • Data Handling: serde for seamless JSON/YAML configuration
  • Performance: Zero-cost abstractions for pricing computations

Getting Started

Prerequisites

Ensure you have the latest stable version of Rust installed:

rustup update stable

Installation

Clone the repository and build the project:

git clone https://github.com/your-org/ferris-quote.git
cd ferris-quote
cargo build --release

Why Rust?

In the world of financial management, precision is non-negotiable. We chose Rust to eliminate common runtime errors and provide a "correct-by-construction" approach to financial document generation. This ensures that every quote produced is the result of a deterministic and secure execution flow.

Note: This project is currently under active development. Contributions regarding tax calculation modules and localization are welcome.
