v0.35.3 is unreleased (no v0.35.3 tag yet — the release commit is still on dev), so ## v0.35.3 is the current in-flight section; this is not a retroactive edit. scripts/validate_release.py passes.

Issue #562 has also been given the full write-up (problem · investigation · root cause · solution · other actions) and assigned to the v0.35.3 milestone.
