Hi, will someone (from maintainers) review this PR, merge it and release new version?
We're also waiting for that fix, or else we will be forced to remove that plugin from dev dependencies in our project and replace it with another solution. Those warnings, while running pytest, are annoying :/

/opt/app_name/venv/lib/python3.12/site-packages/plugin.py:1: UserWarning: pkg_resources is deprecated as an API. See https://setuptools.pypa.io/en/latest/pkg_resources.html. The pkg_resources package is slated for removal as early as 2025-11-30. Refrain from using this package or pin to Setuptools<81.
  import pkg_resources

BTW, plugin works with py3.12 (except that warning, obviously), so it also can be updated.

@wosc looks like only we're using this plugin. ;) Not even the maintainers. No one cares. :)
I don't even know who we can ping... @sallner you seem to merge/review most of the PRs

It was faster for me to incorporate the changes into #39, I hope it is okay for @wosc. The will be a release ASAP.
