Yo, before this goes too deep into implementation, I have just reviewed our discussions on Discord about this idea, and I want to reiterate on some of the points:

  • You've made a point about the visualizer "not being part of an SM64 TASing workflow", with which Kieran disagreed. Would you agree now that the visualizer may be part of an SM64 TASing workflow, and thus legimately motivate integrating it?
  • Would sm64-viz still exist as a separate script for the convenience of "not having to use this bloated TAS tool"?
  • Will the sm64-viz-integration be basing its look on the ugui theming mechanisms, thus promoting the importance of consistent styling? Or would it use the existing theming rather scarcely, providing its own look and feel instead?

Also, is there any specific reason you are starting work on this now?

Yes.

Would sm64-viz still exist as a separate script for the convenience of "not having to use this bloated TAS tool"?

No. The repo will be turned into a public archive and it will no longer be shipped with repack.

Will the sm64-viz-integration be basing its look on the ugui theming mechanisms, thus promoting the importance of consistent styling? Or would it use the existing theming rather scarcely, providing its own look and feel instead?

It would use the current theme for everything except the circular buttons.

Those would keep their colored backgrounds, while inheriting border and "unset" background color from the redux themes.
