Code Review

This PR from Snyk is a good step towards improving security by upgrading css-loader. However, the project's dependencies are significantly outdated across the board. The new version of css-loader (5.2.7) is itself from 2021, and much newer versions are available.

I strongly recommend a more comprehensive dependency audit and upgrade. For instance:

  • Webpack Ecosystem: Upgrading webpack (currently ^5.22.0) would allow you to use modern versions of loaders like css-loader (latest is 7.x). Additionally, file-loader is deprecated in Webpack 5 and should be replaced with built-in Asset Modules. Other packages like webpack-dev-server, babel-loader, etc., are also far behind the latest versions.
  • React & Testing: Key libraries like react (16.x vs 18.x), jest (26.x vs 29.x), and @testing-library are multiple major versions behind.

While this PR is a valid incremental fix, tackling the broader issue of stale dependencies will provide much greater benefits in terms of security, performance, and developer experience.

While upgrading to 5.2.7 is a good step, this version is from 2021. I recommend a more thorough upgrade to a recent version of css-loader (e.g., ^7.1.1). This would require also upgrading webpack in this file to at least ^5.47.0. A more comprehensive dependency update would greatly improve the project's long-term health and security.
