Comparing diarrhea severity definitions in the context of Shigella

This repository contains code used in the manuscript "Defining Severe Shigellosis in the Enterics for Global Health Study: A Comparison of Leading Diarrhea Severity Definitions among Children with Shigella Diarrhea" by Schultes et al. (https://doi.org/10.1093/infdis/jiaf630). The objective of the manuscript was to compare the performance of six existing diarrhea severity definitions in predicting adverse clinical outcomes among children with Shigella-attributable medically-attended diarrhea.

Parent study and manuscript development

This analysis used data from the Enterics for Global Health (EFGH) study, a seven-country consortium study which enrolled children ages 6-35 months presenting to a health facility with diarrhea. The manuscript was written using a collaborative co-authorship approach.

Data availability

EFGH data is publicly available on Vivli DOI - PR00011860. Note that not all variables used in this analysis were made publicly available to protect participant confidentiality. This repository is intended solely for informational purposes.
