Playtesting

The playtest is to test the game at the development stage before it is released to see if the game works properly and/or if there are parts that need adjustment. I focused on whether users can proceed without difficulty in playing the game. I collected feedback from playtesters and will apply feedbacks that common.

Playtesting 1 - 2020/12/10

I conducted a playtest with each of the three play-testers and asked them to do a survey. The following pictures are the results.

Fortunately, I was able to get a positive response. Based on priority, the improvements that I will proceed with these feedbacks are:

  • Change the door frames of area 3 wider.
  • Add hints of progress in area 3.
  • Add landmarks or decorative/architectural elements to area 1.
  • Explore and apply additional appropriate textures to the concept of the level.

Playtesting 2 - 2020/12/18

I conducted another playtest with each of the three play-testers and asked them to do a survey. The following pictures are the results.

First of all, the results were similar to the last playtest. The layout has increased its rating very slightly. The evaluation of Immersion is the first practical evaluation because it was not an evaluation item last week (because texture and light were not applied).

It makes me reassuring that the evaluation has not deteriorated, but on the other hand, it is regrettable that the texture and light did not have a significant impact on gameplay and immersion.

Order in priority, the improvements that I will proceed with these feedbacks are:

  • Reduce players' confusion of 'where to go' with more fill lights and narratives.
  • Put narratives to make it easier for the player to understand the flow of area 3.
