There's a legitimate concern that this would eventually cause a lot of clutter in the filesystem as there's no clearup mechanism for the individual PID files. My recommendation would be to configure sack__shortcut_dir to point to a location in a tmpfs (e.g. /dev/shm on Linux) in .sackrc.
