After talking to the team, we want to start experimenting support for hardware_override.

We have a complexity linter rule i'm not fond of. I'll remove it another PR for you. There's an outstanding question for @CaymanWilliams with regards to how this will interact with backend things too, which is worth waiting on. Hopefully answered quick.
