Matchlocks
Matchlocks are the lowest tier of firearms and are cheap to make only requiring mainly stone and wood. They do not work at all in rain or underwater. They are reloaded with stone musket balls and either low or med grade gun powder (note: the 1.12.2 version only uses regular gunpowder)
To reload use one small stone musket ball and one gunpowder in crafting menu.
